Psychotherapist

Life can sometimes feel overwhelming, confusing, or simply too much to manage on your own. Whether you are experiencing anxiety, low mood, difficulties in relationships, or pressures at work, counselling can provide the space to pause, reflect, and begin to make sense of what you are going through. I offer a safe, supportive, and confidential environment. My approach is neuro-affirmative, meaning I value and respect the different ways people think, feel, and experience the world. I work collaboratively, tailoring each session to your needs, and providing warmth, understanding, and encouragement along the way. Whatever your issues, I am dedicated to supporting you through life's challenges, helping you build resilience, gain self-awareness, re-balance your life, and form healthier relationships.  I offer a free 30-minute consultation where we can have a chat about, and ask any questions you may have. If you'd like to proceed, we can arrange to meet in weekly 50-minute sessions.

Personal Touch

I enjoyed my career in business, but always felt something lacking - I rarely felt fulfilled, and over the years I realised that I missed a sense of "making a difference". When the opportunity came to give up my work, I leapt on it, spending 3 years retraining as a counsellor. I find this line of work infinitely more rewarding as I help my clients overcome whatever it is that troubles them.

Client Focus

I work with adults of all ages. I particularly specialise in dealing with Anxiety, using CBT and Exposure therapy which I find far more effective than conventional talking therapies. I utilise my wide and lengthy experience in business to deal with work stresses, and how these impact on relationships, and can lead to sabotaging behaviours.

Background

After graduating with a degree in PPE at Oxford University, I spent over 30 years working in business, in the UK and Australia, primarily in the retail, telecoms, and energy sectors. A few years ago I decided to re-train as a counsellor, first at Guildford, then in London. I spent 2 years volunteering at a low-cost counselling service in Croydon, South London, before setting up my own practice.

Therapy Approach

I use 2 primary modalities in my work, often fusing them into a hybrid approach. Psychodynamic therapy looks to the past, and how it has shaped us in the present. Issues that trouble or unsettle us reside in our unconscious mind, but can be brought into conscious awareness through therapy. It builds self-awareness, and self-understanding. It is particularly effective at dealing with issues such as unsettling thoughts, low mood, and low self-esteem. Cognitive Based Therapy focuses on the present - it aims to re-frame the way we cognitively process the outside world, by identifying and correcting distortions. This approach helps deal with issues such as self-sabotaging behaviours, and, combined with Exposure therapy, is highly effective at dealing with Anxiety.

Therapies explained

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages individuals to embrace their thoughts and feelings rather than fighting or feeling guilty for them.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a treatment focusing on changing negative patterns of thought and behavior to address psychological issues. It is known for its effectiveness in treating a variety of mental health conditions.

Person-Centered Therapy

Person-Centered Therapy, developed by Carl Rogers, emphasizes a non-directive, empathetic approach that empowers and motivates the client in the therapeutic process.

Person-Centered Therapy

Person-Centered Therapy uses a non-authoritative approach that allows clients to take more of a lead in discussions so that, in the process, they will discover their own solutions.

Psychodynamic

Psychodynamic therapy focuses on unconscious processes as they are manifested in a person’s present behavior, with the goals of self-awareness and understanding of the influence of the past on present behavior.

Psychodynamic

Psychodynamic therapy focuses on understanding the psychological roots of emotional suffering through self-reflection and self-examination.
