Hi I am Madeleine and welcome to my profile. I am a registered psychotherapist (MBACP #415472) who specialises in cognitive behavioural therapy. My work is client‑centred, meaning you set the pace while I provide a safe, supportive space for you to explore your mental health and well‑being.
Personal Touch
Outside the therapy room, I enjoy reading fiction, re-watching TV shows I have seen a hundred times before, and experimenting with new recipes. I am also a fan of yoga and the gym... when it’s not too crowded.
Client Focus
I am a generalist for adult clients. This means that while I don't focus on one issue, my clients bring what is most important to them. Many of my previous clients has involved supporting people navigate gaining confidence in life, work, relationships, and their bodies. With this many of my clients have felt stuck or have had traumatic experiences they wish to move forward from.
Background
My training and development has been an eclectic journey. For almost a decade, I was a childminder while in the United States. Although my role child care focused, I became a sounding board to parents and single mums. By nature, I am a keen listener and have an open mind, this experience showed me how powerful having a non-judgment environment can be. I combined my interest of helping with health, science, and psychology to lead me where I am today.
Outside of my personal experiences and work, my core qualifications include a soon to be completed Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) focused in mental and physical health, a Post-Graduate Diploma (PgDip) Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Groupwork, a Counselling Skills Certificate, and a Master of Research (MRes) in Biomedical Sciences specialised in Molecular Genetics of Mental Health. I prioritise professional development courses to enhance my skills as an empathetic and informed therapist.
Therapy Approach
My practice is based in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). CBT is an evidences-based model of therapy where tools have been researched and validated by experts in the field. I also draw on subsequent learning of other therapeutic models such as mindfulness-based, emotion-focused, and schema therapy. My main goal is to help explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe space that values open communication. I value the use of humour (when appropriate) as a form of self-expression and relief, knowing when is the right time is key but it is a part of who I am as a practitioner. I also value nature and the outdoors, and I believe that it can help in the mending process. My client-centred approach welcomes all people. I am a LGBTQIA safe space, use anti-oppressive practices, and incorporate cultural competence in my therapy approach.
